Water Activities
There is no better way to spend your vacations in Mahahual than enjoying its beautiful beaches of pristine waters by performing any kinds of water activities, such as snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, or scuba diving in the second largest reef in the world, among many others.
If you are into extreme sports, then we recommend windsurfing and kitesurfing. It doesn't matter if you have never done any of these activities because here you will find windsurfing and kitesurfing schools that will teach you how to perform these activities. The best season for doing any of these two activities is during the winter (December to February).
Embark on a trip to see some of the most beautiful natural sceneries that are in the water surrounding Mahahual, such as the Canal de Zaragoza, the Dos Hermanos mogote, Banco Chinchorro and Xcalak, which is located only 60 kilometers away from Mahahual's coast.
Xcalak is a small fishing village located south of Mahahual. It is a great place to scuba dive and snorkel. Right off its shore, you will find the Mesoamerican Reef's portion known as called Xcalak National Reef Park, which features beautiful coral formations and is the habitat of many marine species, including manatees, sea turtles, dolphins, eagle rays, and colorful fishes.
Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve is another one of Mahahual's must-see places. This area encompasses more than 144,000 acres.
Banco Chinchorro is considered one of the best dive sites in the Mexican Caribbean for being the largest coral atoll in Mexico and for having different sceneries: lagoons, islets, and 69 sunken ships that date back to the 16th and 17th century. As if that wasn´t enough, this site is home to a wide variety of marine life like manatees, tarpon fish, and even crocodiles!
